1. How to speed up the network scan task
   

   Sometimes the network scan task takes quite some time, to increase the speed try some of following suggestions:
   - do not include device types you do not want to discover.
   - divide the network scan task in different tasks for network ranges which are far  apart, instead of one large one.
   - if the load of the machine where the NTS Server is located is high you might consider moving the NTS to another machine.

2. How to send and alert when the scan task discovers a new device
   

   If you want to send an alert to Operations Manager when a new device has been discovered you have to create a policy template which contains a rule that for sure triggers an alert any time (for example system uptime or availability). Then you add this policy template as the template which has to be added when a device is discovered.  To make it more complete you can change the name of that specific rule to: “New Device Discovered”.

3. Sending customized knowledge with a Xian Io alert
   If you have a rule which needs additional explanation at the moment that it arrives to OpsMgr 2007, you can change the name in the rule wizard under the Active Rule Options tab. Also if you want to have different information for example different interface you can create specific rules for each interface.

4. How to improve performance with Dynamic Objects Filtering
   

   Dynamic Objects Filtering: You can configure Xian NM Io to only display the objects that are being monitored on the Ops Mgr console and discard the rest.

   For example, you might have a switch that has 24 interfaces and other nodes like memory pools and flash devices but only 10 interfaces are being monitored, by enabling the dynamic object filtering feature, only these 10 nodes will be displayed on Ops Mgr instead of all the described nodes. Therefore, you will avoid sending unnecessary data to Ops Mgr.

   Dynamic Objects Filtering allows you to save time and space on resource usage. Please, follow these steps to enable this feature: Go to the computer where Xian NM was installed, open the 'C:\Program Files\Jalasoft\Xian Network Manager Io R2\Jalasoft.Xian.Services.DataServer.config.xml' file with any text editor, then look for the following section: ‘<Entry name="Dynamic" value="False" />’, change the value from 'False' to 'True', save the changes, close the file and finally, restart the 'Jalasoft Xian Network Manager Data Server' service.
